MARCEL OLIVER

MARCEL OLIVER, A SUB-DIVISION OF THE ENVY HILLS BRAND, LAUNCHED ON FEBRUARY 2, 2024. CREATED BY MARCO CERVANTES, THIS NEW PROJECT SERVED AS A DEPARTURE FROM THE APPROACH TAKEN WITH ENVY HILLS. THE LABEL RELEASED ITS FIRST COLLECTION OF HAND-DESIGNED AND CUSTOM-CUT GARMENTS IN COLLABORATION WITH ALYSSA DEME AND SOPHIA PASSARELLI. IT EMPHASIZED AN INTRICATE DESIGN THAT HIGHLIGHTED THE BEAUTY OF ONESELF.

WITH THE CREATION OF MARCEL OLIVER, MARCO CERVANTES MADE HIS ENTRY INTO THE WORLD OF HIGH FASHION, CREATING A UNIQUE IDENTITY IN AN INDUSTRY RENOWNED FOR CRAFTSMANSHIP, QUALITY MATERIALS, AND CULTURAL INFLUENCE. BY IMPLEMENTING HAUTE COUTURE WITH HIGH-END READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTIONS, CERVANTES TOOK A DIFFERENT APPROACH WITH FASHION PRESENTATION. HIS APPROACH TO IMAGE-MAKING AND AVANT-GARDE CREATIVE DIRECTION OFFERS A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE THAT FALLS OUTSIDE TRADITIONAL NORMS. THIS COMMITMENT TO PRESENTING HIGH FASHION IN AN UNCONVENTIONAL YET CAPTIVATING MANNER MAKES MARCEL OLIVER A BRAND THAT DISRUPTS AND RESHAPES THE SARTORIAL LANDSCAPE.

Matilda's Fantasy

"The place was almost impossible to find, hidden behind an old shop, I could barely read the sign above the door. Inside, the air smelled of spray paint and varnish. The walls were draped in deconstructed fabrics, pieces of tulle and leather. A video installation played in a corner and models stumbled in oversized shoes, faces painted with chaotic splashes of color, mouths moving soundlessly to a distorted beat. It was fashion, but it was also strange."

HISTORY IS MADE AT NIGHT

Longtime collaborators, Marco Cervantes and Nicole Fontes discuss creative legacies embracing the raw, unpolished ways of fashion, music, and art. History is Made at Night showcases self-portraits and photographs by Nicole Fontes from 2015-2024.

MC You’re a fixture of the LA underground, you’ve taken part in shaping music & art. Let’s start with the obvious: What drew you in originally?

NF It wasn’t just one thing, it was the energy. The nightlife in LA isn’t like New York’s polish or Berlin’s grit; it’s a mix of glamour and chaos. You’d be at a house party in Laurel Canyon one minute, surrounded by people wearing archival Galliano, and the next you’re in a warehouse downtown with a live noise set.

MC And where did you find yourself fitting into all of that?

NF I didn’t, not at first. I think a lot of people stumble into it feeling like they don’t belong. But that’s the trick, you realize the entire scene is made up of people who don’t fit anywhere else. I’d DJ these night sets, mixing industrial, shoegaze, and 90s house. That opened the door to fashion. The way people dressed at those parties, it was more than aesthetics; it was about attitude.

MC If you could sum up the LA scene right now including nightlife, fashion, music, and art, what would you say?

NF LA is a mirror. It reflects your chaos, your dreams, your desire to be someone. You can lose yourself in it, or you can find something truer than you’ve ever known.
